2GB MMCs out in Taiwan2GB MMCs out in Taiwan

2GB MMCs out in Taiwan according to Engadget this morning. "Okay, we can accept the fact that some aging memory card standards just won’t die, and their craptitude gets passed on from product generation to generation for we don’t always know what reason. And we might like a reason to be kind of peeved that TEC is bothering to pump a freaking 2GB MMC card when it might just as well be SD. Read on

MDA IVMDA IV

Take a look at the clamshell designed, MDA IV. It may not be the Jornada 720 but take a look at the keyboard. I think I like it. It runs Windows Mobile but looks quite decent and it's a phone too.

Sharp Zaurus SL-C3000<br />Sharp Zaurus SL-C3000

JK On The Run has a good review of the Sharp Zaurus SL-C3000. "The Sharp SL-C3000 is a powerful, innovative PDA that begins to infringe on the territory normally occupied by laptops. The design shouts quality from every surface and the device is just perfect for working on the go.&nbsp; Using the Sharp as a tiny laptop is easy to do given the great keyboard, and switching over to a slate configuration makes using it as a traditional PDA very easy.&nbsp; Either way you will find yourself getting some real work done with this device, even though its small size would belie that.&nbsp; The Zaurus is a good device for those who are Linux enthusiasts who don't mind tinkering around with the hardware and software, but novices would probably be better off sticking with either a Palm or Windows Mobile based device."

NS Basic/CE Announces Version 5.1!NS Basic/CE Announces Version 5.1!

NS BASIC Corporation today announced the immediate availability of NS Basic/CE 5.1. THe new release adds support for Windows CE.NET 4.2 devices, such as the NEC MobilePro 900c and the Psion Teklogix WorkAbout Pro and NetBook Pro.

NS Basic/CE is a VB-like development tool. It allows you to create applications on a Windows desktop computer which will run on Windows CE devices. A unique feature of the development tool is that it can also be used to develop on the device itself. With the large screen and full keyboard of devices such as the NEC MobilePro 900c and the Psion Teklogix NetBook Pro, complex applications can be effectively created and debugged directly on the unit.

"We've worked hard to make NS Basic/CE easy to use." said George Henne, President of NS BASIC Corporation. "Porting it to Windows CE.NET 4.2 devices gives developers a flexible and powerful solution for developing enterprise applications."

The new release also delivers numerous user interface improvements. A utility for converting eMbedded Visual Basic apps (eVB) to NS Basic/CE has been updated, and new samples and documentation has been added on client/server communication and the use of SQLite. The update is free to existing users of NS Basic/CE 5.0.

Existing NS Basic/CE applications will be able to run on WIndows CE.NET 4.2 devices running XScale chips, in most cases without modification. This allows the huge base of NS Basic/CE applications and developers to make immediate use of this device.

More about NS Basic/CE
NS Basic allows developers who program with tools such as Visual Basic to use their experience to develop applications for Windows CE devices. NS Basic/CE is a complete, powerful development environment enabling the development of applications for the enterprise, business, personal productivity and eduction. It includes features such as databases, net, serial and IR communications, signature capture and more. Development takes place on the desktop or on the device itself.

Applications developed with NS Basic/CE are distributed royalty free. NS Basic/CE 5.1 costs $149.95 for a single user. Enterprise licenses are also available. The toolkit allows development on Windows 98SE, 2000, XP or directly on the device itself.

MDA IV,The MDA IV

Although it is not running Windows CE, T-Mobile Germany took the wraps off the MDA IV, a cellular-wireless Pocket PC with a clamshell design. Now I think it looks great. I would have to see what the keyboard is like but for a PDA this thing looks great. It would and could never replace the 720 for me or my new NEC device but on the whole this thing is a beauty and if it comes out here in the UK I will certainly buy one to test it out and report back to you. More details on this one over at Brighthand.

Bargain PDA reviews the clamshell Sharp device, Sharp Zaurus SL-C3000Bargain PDA reviews the clamshell Sharp device, Sharp Zaurus SL-C3000

Bargain PDA have posted a review of the clamshell device, the Zaurus SL-C3000 which runs Linux. It's quite a lengthy review. "With my own Zaurus C860, I have really tried to leverage its power to let me write Word documents, manage my contacts, write perl and C++ code and listen to MP3s, and I haven't regretted the choice of platform. The fact that none of the clamshell Zaurus models come with built-in Wi-Fi is still frustrating - some people argue that the design leaves the users' options open, but I am within Wi-Fi coverage for all but about 2 hours each day and I'd like to have instant net access without having to swap out a CF card (I'm not quite annoyed enough to gvie up my Zaurus, though)."
